 Hangzhou trip

Hi all. We are currently in Hangzhou. The Hyatt on West Lake is wonderful and the lake is beautiful. It is a more relaxed city than Beijing and the lake area is pretty. Relaxing walks along the lake. We are here as tourist but also to visit our daughter who is studying at the university so our agenda is a bit different than others. However, we did get to a fantastic massage place called in english Dragonfly. It is located on 176 Nanshan Road near the lake. So far we have spent several hours walking around the lake, having a massage, shopping on Hefang Street, dinner at Banana Leaf Restaurant, visiting the night market, and going out to Longjing to see the tea fields and have dinner at Green Tea Restaurant. Today we will head to Xi'Xi Wetlands. It's much warmer here than in Beijing :)

We went by taxi. Very easy. We told him to drop us near the tea museum..he actually dropped us at a tea house/farm house (we were not specific with our instructions) where we were whisked inside and into a room where we were offered to sample 3 types of Longjing tea. Apparently the tea leaves have different strengths young, middle age and old for lack of better terminology. To me there was a smell and taste difference. I bought some..no barganing..we did have a Chinese speaker with us..our daughter who is studying here. If this happens to you son't feel you need to stay. Or to avoid it all together just go to the museum and walked from there. We went out there blindly. We then walked up the road and through a village....there are tea farms all over the place you can't miss them. We were there late afternoon so missed the museum but the Green Tea Restaurant is right there and VERY busy. We got there between 5 and 5:30pm for dinner and good thing because by 6:30 you couldn't get near the place. Great lamb dish, good chicken, a good veggie soup with shrimp, a no so great beef dish and good soy prawns. Overall, we liked the restaurant and I think we were the only white people there. Clean bathroom. Very easy to get a taxi back. You do not need a guide, just have the hotel help you with the instructions both ways.
