My wife and I agree with the other posts on this forum regarding Michael (Li Wei) Yang. Our hotel arranged for a car, drive and Michael to take us to the terra cotta warriors and then drop us off at the History Museum. If we'd had more than a day in Xi'an we would certainly have asked Michael to take us to other sites as well. He speaks fluent English, is personally warm and eagerly shares his deep knowledge about Xi'an, Chinese history and the historical sites. It was also a pleasure just to talk with him about day to day life in modern China and its opportunities and challenges.
More than anyone else we met on our 10 day trip in China, Michael helped provide a human dimension to all the news one reads about this astonishing country. We wish he had been our guide in Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai as well! If you are planning a trip to Xi'an, contact Michael directly, which will be more cost-effective than doing so through your hotel. His email is firstname.lastname@example.org. You will be delighted!
