Guilin in mid dec? Worth it?

Hey people,

My group of 3 young adults will be in Shenzhen around 15th December and has about 1 week to spare thereafter. Intend to go to Guilin after rave reviews in the forum.

Would like to find out how it is like in winter in Guilin/Yangshuo? Is it worth it to go there at this time? Can we still take the ride at the river?

Advices please! Thanks~

Ang

It is a bit cold but still a nice place to visit. All the activities are available. Doing outdoor stuff is the main attraction here not not as much fun. Make sure your hotel has good heating. No point going to the rice terrace at this time of the year.

I am a local guy in Guilin. Guilin is a little bit cold and heavy wind at this time. The temperature is between 5 to 10 centigrade. You can take a cruise in Guilin City to view the scenery of Two Rivers and Four Lakes of Guilin city. In Yangshuo you can still ride a bike to explore the beautiful sight there! Good luck!

Thanks for the replies!

How about the cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo? Still available in this period?

And is there any cruise from yangshuo to guilin instead?

How do i go about getting the bamboo rafts on the river?

Hi. No you can't do the Li River cruise from Yangshuo back to Guilin. The boats go back empty.

Look at the Yulong river near Yangshuo for bamboo rafting.

Ang,

If the water is too low from Guilin to Yangshuo & you can;t do the cruise perhaps just head to Yangshuo & explore the area anyway. Hope you have a great time in Shenzhen.

If the water is high, you can do cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo, if is low, you can not do it. When you get to Yangshuo, you can do bamboo rafting in Yulong River.

Hi, it is sunny in Guilin these months. About 10-20 degree Celsius. Water level of Li River is very good, boats run as usual. It is worth taking the tour to Guilin and Yangshuo, but not worth taking a tour to Terraced field if you want to see rice there; if you want to see Miao minority there, it is worth doing so.

Airfare should be lower at that time, you could take flight to and back.

A day tour to Reed flute cave, Elephant trunk hill, Fubo hill, Seven star park see pandas.

A day to Terraced field to see local minority there.

A day Li River Tour to Yangshuo

A day Yangshuo tour by biking etc, Yulong River drafting.

A day to Daxu ancient town or Jiuwu ancient town and then to the airport

Go there by bus from Guilin city. There are many local bus to the ancient town and Terraced field minority. You'd better to hire a guide as a guide will explain things you never know in your book. Cost is very low. Less than 100rmb to the ancient towns and less than 300 rmb to the Terraced field if done by yourself.
