I have posted this question in the China forum but then thought it might be better to put it in this one as the bulk of it concerns Guilin, so my apologies if it is inappropriate to double post. Tossing up so many ideas and am getting into a big mess. Some help with a few questions would be much appreciated.

Going to HK with my mum in June (13th) this year, return flights only booked at this stage, arriving HK at 5pm. We have both been to HK before so thought we might stay only 2 nights then travel into China. Mum is very keen to catch the train to Lo Wu to the shopping mall, from there we like the look of touring through Guilin/Yangshuo.

1.From Lo Wu/Shenzen should we stay the night then go on to Guilin or Yangshuo the next day? Or is it a better idea to travel onwards on the same day? If it were best to overnight it where would be a good hotel to stay (4*)?

2. What would the best transport options be to travel from Lo Wu/Shenzen to Guilin or Yangshuo? I guess most speedy option would be the best on a restricted time frame.

We like the thought of the Lonji Rice Terraces (Dragons Backbone) trip, Reed flute cave and a Li River cruise or similar (bamboo rafting)and some cycling.

3. How many nights would you recommend for this? 3 or 4 or 5 even?

As a possibility we were wondering whether we could fit in a flight up to Xian for a night with the sole purpose of seeing the Warriors. Any thoughts? Too ambitious? If we did that what is approx cost of a flight? It might be a bit cost prohibitive if it was any more than a couple of hundred US$

We would then look at returning to HK for 1 or 2 nights, we have a very late flight out on the 10th night (22nd).

Thanks in advance trip advisors.

There are at least three ways to get from Shenzhen to Guilin / Yangshuo.

Flights to Guilin take an hour, but schedule isn't great and you have to take into account travel to the airport and check in times.

You can catch an overnight train to Guilin, although it is quite a long journey.

In my opinion, the best way is the overnight sleeper bus from Shenzhen.

See http://www.yangers.com/ for more details.

For flights see elong.net - maybe possible to go up to Xi'an

You need not stay Shenzhenovernight, you can fly from Shenzhen to Guilin directly, this is the best option. Guilin Yangshuo is very nice place for holidays as it has relaxed atmosphere, if you want to see more and enjoy more in this area, 4 or even over 5 nights is required, Guilin for 2 nights, Yangshuo for 3 nights. You can visit www.guilinprivatetours.com for more info.

When you arrive in Guilin you should stay in Guilin for one or 2 nights, as Guilin is in the middle between Rice Terraces and Yangshuo. The first night you stay in Guilin, the night day visit Rice Terraces, Day 2, Li River Cruise, around 1 pm get to Yangshuo, then you can enjoy the countryside, you will see real China here. Have a nice trip.

Take flights from Shenzhen to Guilin can save your time. There are many flights from Shenzhen to Guilin, so you can choose the one best for your time.

For the places you want to visit, 3 to 4 days is ok in Guilin. If time is limited you can only stay for 3 nights and if time is enough you can stay 4 or more nights. One or two nights in Guilin and one nights in Longji and you can still stay one or two nights in Yanghsuo

2 days in Xi'an is enough for warriors.

Look at www.yangers.com/Shenzhen_to_Yangshuo.htm for good information on this route. I would probably prefer the overnight bus because it goes direct, and you won't have to waste time messing about airports and delayed flights.
