Yes there are some and there is a pharmacy within walking distance. I went there but could not quite explain the directions to you here. Just the doorman at the hotel. Do not expect to find medication at the pharmacies like Watson's.

The closest supermarket is "Park and Shop" above the metro station near the Holiday Inn Shifu Guangzhou. Many Chinese drug stores around the shopping streets that surround the hotel. There are supermarkets near many of the metro stations stops around town. The Carrefour supermarket is near the next metro station from the hotel.
