Hi Forumers,

Would like to seek your advice on the followings ?

(1) What are the options of transportation to get the Guilin from guangzhou? Train? Buses?

(2) What is the price list for the tickets - train and buses?

(3) How easy is it to get the tickets - train and buses?

(4) HOw long would you recommend my stay for guangzhou and guilin?

Currently am considering if i should extend my stay around this region as i will be heading to HK and Macau in 12 days time.

Appreciate it

Cheers

Train from Guangzhou to Guilin (and return) was great! Getting tickets in advance was no issue, even in high season. The prices depend on the type of ticket, e.g. soft sleeper, hard sleeper, etc. It was an overnight train ride, about 11 hours. There are buses as well.

Hi all,

Does anyone know how much is the air ticket from Guangzhou to GuiLin?

And also, how long is the flight journey?

Look on elong.net for fares. Flight will take only an hour. However, I would agree that train is a good choice for that route.

Overnight trains are the best choice for the length of journey but they do fill up around weekends and public holidays, especially the ones that begin in HKG. I had to take a bus at easter, which is not a holiday in China, but is in HKG.

IMO Yangshuo is a better choice than Guilin if you only have a few days, however it doesn't have an airport or train station.

1) Guangzhou -- Guilin possible by train, bus and also flight.

Guangzhou -- Guilin trains:

K36/K37 (1746--0651) 13h05min

T38/T39 (1950--0642) 10h52min

Look on www.yangers.com/Guangzhou_to_Yangshuo.htm for a little more information on buses.

2) Train costs 201/207/215 for hard sleeper, 313/326 RMB for soft sleeper.

3) Easier for buses than for trains (assuming you want sleepers), but trains are more comfortable IMHO.

4) Depends on what you need to do?!

What's the difference in comfort level between hard and soft sleeper? I know one is 6 people per cabin and the other 4; we are traveling 4 together but sharing with 2 others isn't a problem. What about the actual comfort of the beds, and anything else we should consider?

Julie

I find hard sleeper is fine for an overnight trip or with a group. There are no doors on the "compartments" so little privacy. During the day 6 people have to sit on the 2 bottom bunks - not much fun if this is your bunk!! I did this once in holiday time & my "room-mates" had 3 small children between them so 9 people to sit on the 2 bunks - terrible. However the Guilin trip is under 10 hours so this isn't a problem.

Soft sleeper is very marginally softer than hard sleeper IMHO. Everyone in soft sleeper gets a bit more head space, and on the soft sleeper upper bunk you can actually sit up if you're no taller than 165 cm or so.
