That's in Tianhe district near the Guangzhou East train station. Take airport shuttle no.6 (20 RMB/pax) to Tianhe Dasha, then a taxi to your hotel.

I would be travelling to Shantou and staying in Shantou Garden Hotel after 3 nights in Guangzhou. What is the better mode of transport to get there?

If I travel by road, I would prefer going by Express Bus. Or ir there other mean such as taxi. There is a train service to Shantou but it takes about 8 hours or more. Thank you for your help information.

Actually, the trains to Shantou take 8h56min and 6h56min respectively.

There're plenty of buses from Tianhe long-distance bus station to Shantou. Earliest 0630 and latest 2240.
