 1-3rd Jan in SP

Just been informed that museums will be closed in SP on these days. Any ideas for other things to do?

There are plenty of nice cafes in St. Petersburg and theatres, which of course will be opened.

You can go to Tsarskoye Selo for a walk - the park is opened, and you will have the possibility to admire park in winter and the palace (probably without visiting it inside). I can also recommend you having a cup of coffee with blinys in the Admiralty restaurant, located at the territory of the park. It is not expensive, but has good atmosphere

January 01 is a quiet day. Definitely. But then everything comes back to life:

Hermitage is open on Jan 02-03 as well as all churches, fortress and so on. So you can do the usual sightseeing.

As for the first day -why not to walk around the city enjoying the atmosphere. the city is beautiful itself.

Thank you bothfor the advise. Most tour guides seem to think the Hermitage will be closed on 2nd but if it's opened it means I'll be able to see more!

A walk around the city - Is it easy to read the road names and follow a map - we can't read cyrillic.

Also, can you advise the best place to take a Troika ride and approximate costs.

Much appreciated

At least on Nevsky (the main street) and around it street signs are both - Russian and English. Good map will also help.

Troika can be found in Pavlovsk - in front of the palace
