one week holiday

I am planning to go for a week to mauritius with my wife. Which is the best area to stay. Most of the time we will be sight seeing. Hotel itself is not that important as long as it is clean. We prefer Indian food. So it has to be close to such restaurants. It should be easily accessible to all tourist attractions. We will be hiring a car.

It looks like you should be looking at the North/West part of the island. There are a whole host of hotels suitable for different budgets.

Most hotels will have a choice of Indian style food as the majority of the population is of Indian origin.

Regarding eating out, the best places to eat tend to be centred in major towns but it may not always be restaurants but food courts, food shacks, take aways etc.

As you will have a car then it should not be a problem to drive out to eat but do note that some establishments close early in the evenings, thats why it makes sense to go HB.

Thanks. Will heading south not be a problem. Have been told, crossing Port Louise can be busy.

Hi,

We always drive in Mauritius and yes PL is a big problem. Peak rush hour is from3pm to 6.30pm when it can take over an hour to cross the city (and its a relatively small distance) but I would avoid PL from anytime from 2pm to 7pm as its still very busy.

The government are still trying to come up with a scheme to alleviate this problem.
