Thinking of Booking Chaaya Island

Hi

We are thinking of celebrating our 25 year anniversary at Chaaya Island staying all inclusive, in a water bungalow.

I've noticed a post on this forum states that you are allocated a restaurant by your room type - does this mean we can't use all of the restaurnts on the resort like in the Caribbean? Would we have to have all our meals in the one allocated restaurant? Which restaurant would we be allocated in a water bungalow?

Also, I understand one bar charges for drinks, the beach bar - again is it not part of the AI plan? I could imagine the beach bar to be popular

We have never been to the Maldives and were thinking of a stopover in Male, is it worthwhile?

Any tips, info useful advice would be appreciated

Thanks

male is only good for a couple of hours, literally .

chaaya island dhonevli.... it depends what you want from a resort . i would visit dhonveli only if i was a surfer . for any other activities, preferences , i would not go there and i certainly would not spend prime money on a watervilla there . for that kind of price , i would choose a better island .

if you share with us what made you select this island , we can advise you much better

Thanks for your reply, there was no real reason for choosing, we could travel direct with BA or Thomson, it was within our budget and all inclusive. We were taken in by the pics and that all inclusive, incuded everything! Our experience of AI is in the Caribbean and it includes everything.

Main factors we are looking for - direct flight, BA or Thomson and all inclusive (pref choice of restaurants and all bars/drinks included), stay in a water bungalow, good snorkelling, a little evening entertainment but mainly a choice of decen restaurants - for £3500 for both of us for a week

Where would you reommend? We won't bother with an overnighter in Male, we had a feeling it wouldn't offer much.

Thanks

When are you going (as the prices change with high/low season)?

We went to dhonveli last April and loved it the food was great and we stayed in both the beach bungalows and the over water suites we found the food to be the same in the 2 restaurants we ate in although the over water suite restaurant was quieter. With regards to snorkelling there isn't much coral we found the lagoon very safe and full of different kinds of fish including reef sharks we had a very relaxing holiday

Just another thing we found it cheaper to upgrade on the island than book it through the travel agent

what time of year you go makes a huge difference. The main AI islands with a choice of restaurants and bars are Kuramathi, Reethi beach and maybe Kurumba although that is situated at the end of the runway. But £3.5k wont get you AI in a WV in a decent island.

Thanks for all you replies, we are inexperienced, as we have never been to the Maldives. I think we are going to speak to a specialist agent, it is crucial that we fly direct, and have a AI package with a choice of restaurants. We will be celebrating our anniversary so really want a water villa, even if it means we have to increase our budget. Once we have found a resort that ticks all our boxes, we will no doubt be back asking questions! Thanks
