We went in 2006, which I believe was the year before it went almost 100% Italian.
The house reef was awesome, in my opinion as good as Vilamendhoo, esp the last entry point then turn right towards the sand spit.
Food was all buffet and not bad at all, plenty of choice including local curries, pasta, meat & fish dishes and fab desserts. Tables were shared but it was high season and almost full. AI was good too, didn't include minibar or bottled water but you got local water at meal times which was perfectly drinkable.
The only downside was the terrible evening entertainment which was rather European in format, style & taste!
If you can get a room at the sand spit end and on the sunset side for all day sun, avoid the rooms near the main buildings due to a cockerel (unless he's not there anymore!) who woke us every morning at sunrise until we moved.
