Transport from Kuala Lumpur to Penang

My wife and I are travelling to Kuala Lumpur want to spend 3 days in Penang - we have heard travelling by bus to Penang is a good method of getting there. Can anyone recommend a good and safe bus service to use

Hi there, Air Asia have flights from Penang to KL at 79MYR at the moment. If you are going back to LCCT just for the sleep, book Tune but do it sooner rather than later. Its across the car park and comfortable ( small) room with amazing shower. Book both flights and hotel online. Note - you will have to pay for extras eg luggage on the flight and air cond at the hotel :)

Thanks for the information - I have just booked the trip Penang to KL with Air Asia in the evening and staying in the Tune Hotel for our flight back which is early the next morning - so the hotel is a great location.

I have also booked the Aeroline bus for KL to Penang to get a look at the scenery

Hi DaveMandurah,

You're right when you say that flying is not all that much faster when you take in to account the time to the airport etc (one hour drive to airport, check in one hour prior to flight, one hour flight, exit plane & collect baggage 30mins+, 30mins+ taxi to George Town for a total 4 hours+ compared to a 4.5 hour bus journey).

There are HEAPS of bus companies that ply the route Kuala Lumpur to Penang. In addition to the above you could also consider...

- Transnasional (RM35 per adult, departures at 9am, 10:30am, 4pm, 5:30pm, and later - http://www.transnasional.com.my/ ) - we've used Transnasional on a number of routes including to and from Melaka, and from Ipoh to Kuala Lumpur and have always found their buses to be clean and comfortable;

- K.K.K.L. with arrival options of Butterworth or Komtar (their website is a bit hard to follow, but appears they have departures at 1:30pm and 11pm - http://kkkl.com.my/Schedule/kuala-lumpur.html ) - we used this company to travel from Komtar to Ipoh, found their buses to be comfortable;

- Plusliner (RM38.50 per adult, departures at 7:30am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, and later - http://www.plusliner.com.my/ );

- Sri Maju (RMRM31-RM38, 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm, 2:30pm, 4pm, 5:05pm and later - http://www.srimaju.com/ );

Even more companies are available to book via http://www.easibook.com/ ... Plenty of options, with the aforementioned Star and Aeroline being the luxury/premium options.

Regarding flying back to Kuala Lumpur from Penang, and accommodation options... Tune Hotel LCCT is a good option for an overnight stay. It is literally a minute shuttle from the terminal, or around a 7 minute walk through the carpark. It does book out, so check out their website - http://www.tunehotels.com/my/en/ - making sure you book Tune Hotel LCCT not Tune Hotel Downtown Kuala Lumpur (a friend of a friend made that mistake). The rooms are SMALL!!! As they don't have twin rooms we've always had a room each, but even if we were a couple (as opposed to mother and daughter) we would actually consider a room each - a night away from each other's sleep habits is not always a bad thing, for mothers with daughters or partners (LOL!).

For other options, check out the listings on TripAdvisor for Sepang - tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g298314-Sepang_Sepang…

Hope this helps,

Lise & Sabrina

Hi Lise & Sabrina

Your information is a fantastic help as you have obviously travelled a lot in this area and have provided some great detailed information. I see what you mean about the Tune hotels in KL city vs LCCT
