Left Luggage service at Low Cost Carrier terminal (LCCT) |
|
We arrive in KLIA at 7AM. Our AirAsia flight to Langkawi is at 12:45P, the same day, out of LCCT. We plan to leave our big bags at the airport (since AirAsia seems to make a big fuss about big bags) and collect them on our return from Langkawi. A few questions: 1. Is there a left luggage service at LCCT where we can leave our bags for a few days? If so, what are the charges? 2. Has anyone used these services either at KLIA or LCCT? How reliable/safe is it? 3. Since we have more than 5 hrs to kill at the airport, any suggestions of how we can spend them. Are there rooms/lounges (like in Singapore Changi airport) where we can relax? Any shower facilities? |

TX, All the facilities you are looking for (baggage storage, lounges with showers etc) are available at KLIA… but I’m not so sure if they’re available at the LCCT. Here’s the link to the LCC terminal’s website, maybe that will have the info you need. http://www.klia.com.my/LCCTerminal/ Regards the safety/reliability of left luggage… hmmm… I have no personal bad experiences with left luggage, but I have had my suitcase broken into at either KLIA or Penang airport (after checking it in), and have read many cases of this type of baggage handler theft in the Malaysian press. There was a TA poster a week or two ago who left his luggage at the ferry terminal’s luggage storage facility in Langkawi for a couple of hours, and his mobile phone was stolen out of his bag. When he questioned the staff, they just pointed to the “we’re not responsible for theft or loss” sign. I would be a bit hesitant about leaving anything valuable in the storage facilities. If it was just clothes and stuff (that would be no hassle to replace and present few problems with the insurance company) then I’d do it. Valuable stuff, no way. Are you aware that the excess baggage charges on Air Asia’s domestic flights are very cheap? I think it’s only rm8 per kilo. Depending on how many kilos you’re carrying it may just be as easy (and as cheap) to take your excess kilos with you to Langkawi. If I were you I’d spend as much time as possible at KLIA before heading out to the LCCT. The Plaza Premium lounge at KLIA costs something like rm70 or rm80 for 6 hours and has showers, tv’s, computers with internet access, wifi access, and simple foods and drinks included in the price.

Don't leave anything of value in your left luggage, it is just not worth the risk, high risk here if you take my meaning.
