5 day plan for two adults and two children (6 & 8) boys stay

We are traveling from Sydney to Langkawi on the 21st Sept and departing to KL on the 27th of Sept. we are staying at the Sheraton Langkawi and we are quite concerned given the reviews on trip advisor about the standard of the hotel. But so be it that is where we are staying so will make the best of it. We are hoping we will get some sunny days but who knows. We are looking for information about the following

Eating options nearby the hotel

Car hire suggestions will it be worth it for the time we are there?

Suggested things to do whilst in Langkawi. Both our boys are very outgoing and active they can both wakeboard and waterski and are good swimmers. We figure the sky bridge is a must but would like some other ideas. Is it worth hiring jetski's or doing a day cruise etc etc

Self drive car hire is almost a must if you gonna explore the attractions in Lgk. But not to hire for all 6 days you are in Lgk, plan where you are going to, no need to rent for days where you gonna stay in hotel or when you need to do short trips where taxi will be more economical. Rental is Myr75 per day.

I would suggest you rent the car for ALL days - as renting as well as petrol is so cheap. Petrol about AUD 50 cents per liter !

The sheer convenience of having your own car (and that too so cheap !) beat the so called convenience of taking a taxi when needed.

Other queries - the TA experts would be better on advising for this.

Have fun !

I take that you are staying at "Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort (SLBR)" and not "Four Points by Sheraton Langkawi Resort".

SLBR is located in the middle of Pantai Kok Road (Jalan Pantai Kok). Pantai Kok Rd is surrounded by forest left and right and is a bit of a hair-raiser to drive on come nightfall as the road is badly lit (street lights almost non-existant). You will definitely need a car eventhough the hotel has a shuttle service based on their website.

Eating options = Pantai Kok is almost void of any commercial developments except for SLBR and Tanjung Sanctuary hence, no eating options within walking distance out of resorts. You will need to travel a bit for non-resort food. Nearest food spot is in Perdana Quay where up-market bars, pubs and restaurants operate by the jetty.

As Pantai Kok is relatively secluded, there are no water sport operators along the beach strip. Probably the resort has some for hire (might be wrong, though). Suggest Pantai Cenang for your water sport fix.

Note : Sky Bridge is closed of for maintenance and repairs until December at least. Check their website for details. Cable car is still running though.

As your boys are both very active with water sports why not check out Mega Watersports which is a jet ski tour. Seems to be getting excellent reviews at the moment. You can find the details for this under the tab marked "Things to Do". They will probably not be able to do this on their own though.

Most of the other water sports such as jet ski, parasailing etc are done in Pantai Cenang which is about a 15min drive from the Sheraton.

There are two restaurants, Kittas and Shin Me just down the road from Sheraton and I think the hotel does run a shuttle bus down there. Do be careful if you walk this stretch of road, particularly at night, as it is very poorly lit.
