Teluk Ramunia / Sungai Rengit /

Hi... been thinking of going a weekend trip to Kota Tinggi. Ussually we would be going to Desaru beach, but I've read a bit about mini lobster in sungai rengit and want to try it. Surf the net and couldn't find anything satisfying about the resort in Teluk Ramunia.. Sea View and Sunrising resort... Anyone got info about theese resort and maybe advice about restaurant there?

Driving from Desaru towards sungei rengit will bring you to a T-junction, Turning left will lead you to Teluk ramunia. Turn right towards Sg rengit. head in the direction of the town/ferry 'terminal'..Just before the town, you see a few restorants ..looks like original houses on left of road. These are the famous ones, run by chinese, but I believe they are halal. if you are muslims, maybe you want to confirm the halal part, not very sure tho.

Not heard of eating lobsters at the resorts mentioned.

Enjoy the lobsters.. They are just great!!

Hi. Thanks for the info. My itinery would be eat the lobster at the Sungai Rengit and stay the night at Teluk Ramunia. As for the retaurant in Sungai Rengit do you know if they serve pork? If they serve it I wouldn't go there. I know they probably wouldn't get halal certificate but I don't mind as long as they didn't serve any pork and didn't put any kind of wine in the cooking. Is it rude to ask them directly? And is there any malay restaurant? Thanx again four the info.

It's ok to ask...chinese restaurants don't feel offended. Some of them actually have different sets of utensils for halal and non-halal food. Question will be whether one feels comfortable eating there.

There are some stalls/shops run by Malay operators but don't look like seafood places..You could check it out tho....Anyway just try lah. There are several outlets that serve the lobster, am quite sure some of them are halal outlets. Not sure which one serves better food?..My rule of thumb is ...go where the crowd is!!!

Ok...Been there done that....

Just wanna add about this topic incase somebody else would want to know. I stayed at the Sepang Beach Resort in Teluk Ramunia. Price for the weekend is RM150. It is a chalet run by a Malay and lots of Malay stay there. I went pass few other chalet as well. The Sea View Resort only has villa's type of accomondation and the price is RM290 for weekends it have 2 rooms and kitchen & utensil facilities. Then there's Sunrising Beach Resort which is fully book by the time I get there. Seems like lots of people stay there. There's even a bus!

Teluk Ramunia beach is not as good as Desaru. Its not as white and deep. The sand is quite brown and the sea is very shallow especially when its in low tide.

From Teluk Ramunia to Sungai Rengit is about 7KM. Nice view on the way to go there too. There's an ostrich farm and we did went there. RM10 per adult and RM6 per child and it comes with a guided tour. The ostrich is around 400 so the farmer say and I do believe him. Lots of ostrich there. A very educational and fun tour. We tried the ostrich Satay which is quite good but expensive (RM7.50 per 5 pieces = RM1.50 per piece).

Lobster in Sungai Rengit is not as cheap as I think. Maybe we order the wrong kind of lobster. RM100 per kg. We should order the mini lobster but I think we order the big lobster. I do saw the price list and the smallest lobster is RM75 per KG. I wouldn't know if they're cheap or not coz its my first time eating lobster. And yes the restaurant that I went is halal. Even got pictures of Johor Minister eating there. We ate in Jade Seafood restaurant.

In conclusion, my weekend trips is quite ok though if only we stay in better beach chalet, it will be wonderful.

Destination Expert   What's this?
for Johor Bahru

Jade restaurant should be the most famous one at Sungai Rengit. They should have big size lobster and smaller size lobster, price cannot compare now as last time we tried at RM60/kg for mini lobster. Yes, you can see YAB also eating there.

Thank you very much anyway. I'll try to ask around. I called other operators, seems like all fully booked. Besides Teluk Ramunia, do u have any good recommendations?

Avoid "Ramunia Beach Resort"

The operator are blood sucker and very unaccommodating.

If for any reason they feel your group is too large, they will demand you rent a few more chalet units. Very money minded people. They will spoil you holiday for sure. Or bring more money if you do go there. Also there are no facilities there.

Prices:

Bungalow - RM$400

Chalet - RM$120

Dorm room - RM$80
