Do shops in aoyama operate on new year day (1 jan)?

I would like to visit the shops like burberry and etc on new year day itself. However, I heard that many shops on that day don't operate. So do anyone know if these shops open for business on New Year day?

Bad time for a shopping trip. In Japan it's the start of the 3 day national holiday so they're highly unlikely to be open but you could email then to find out for sure. Many other boutiques on Omotesando say they close for the 3 days on their websites but Burberry's site doesn't mention anything.

Actually, these days, lots of shops in Aoyama and Omotesando are open on New Year's Day. For example, all shops in Omotesando Hills and Laforet Harajuku are open. But traditionally the best day to shop is the 2nd of January as all department stores and the majority of small shops have big New Year's Day sales.

Clearly needing to capitalise on the masses passing through to Meiji Jingu. Check the websites if you have specific stores in mind otherwise it's head for 'Hills then. Or if are still in town when places start to re-open head for the sales. Good luck bargain heading!

I believe most of the shops you mention will be closed for the new year holiday.
