We will be travelling around Japan for about 37 days and plan to travel from Tokyo to Hokkaido on the 28 January....our questions are:
1. What is the best way to get from Tokyo to Hokkaido? We are open to taking the Shinkansen / train but also wonder if perhaps we should break the journey up with a stop along the way? Any suggestions where a good stop off point might be? Also we are open to flying.
2. We are planning to go to Hakodate (2 days) - Noboribetsu (3 days) - Otaru (2 days) - Sapporo for the snow festival (3-4 days). Any suggestions for good places to stay in any of these places and/or other places that you recommend would be better - or that we should add to these?
3. We understand the snow festival time in Sapporo will be a really busy time. Is finding accommodation difficult to secure during this time? should we book now - or is it not that critical? Also any suggestions of cool (but warm) places to stay in Sapporo?
Really appreciate any suggestions from Hokkaido travel-savvy folk out there.
