skiing mid/late december 2013

Hi,

We are planning a ski holiday mid/late December 2013. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children with skiing experience . Adults/children are very comfortable with blue slopes and the easier red slopes.

Would you recommend Niseko / Furano ? Do you have any recommendations for accommodation that is not pricey? We are okay with pensions / self contained accommodation as well. Which resort will be cheaper if we also factor in English ski school for kids/lift passes/rentals and accommodation. Finally, are there any online agents that you recommend that we book from ?

Apart from 1 week skiing, we are also looking at travelling around Hokkaido for about a week. We will most probably not be driving, after reading about winter driving in Hokkaido. Any recommendation will be greatly appreciated .

Many thanks!

Niseko is more popular and happening than Furano. You also get more English support there.

Many of the accommodation places have English websites. You can use Booking.com to help you sort through prices but some pensions might not be available using a third party site.

Thanks ! Alternatively, what do you think if we base ourselves in Sapporo and take day trips out ? In that case, we can try out the different resorts. And most of the bus trips with ski lifts are quite well priced.

If you want to ski for more than one day, then I think you will be exhausted with the bus rides daily. From Sapporo to Niseko or Furano, it will take at least 2 hours one way. That means 4-5 hours on buses alone each day.

There are 3 ski resorts at Niseko. You can ski all 3 using the Niseko All Mountain Pass. That gives you many runs of varying degree difficulty. I don't think you need to go elsewhere.
