jordan in august 2012

hi i am thinking of visiting aqaba and amman during the holidays. have 3 children two teenagers and 3 adults in the group. was wondering if anyone could advise on how to organise my trip, how long it will take to do everything and of any cheap hotels. the youngest in our group will be 3 by then. thank you.

Jordan is not ideal for children and especially young children at that time, and more so if you want to "do everything". If you want to hang out 90pct of the time in Aqaba, OK, but it will be very hot to visit around.

Check out www.jordanjubilee.com for some hints on getting to the different places. The only real solution for your family would be to rent a car, preferably one with AC.

I agree with Amariya, renting a minivan (with A/C) so that you can do everything at your own pace would be best. Temperatures are high in August and I would definitely avoid the Dead Sea, no cheap hotels there anyway. If you want to spend time in Aqaba book accomodation near Tala bay / South beach as there is usually a nice breeze. There are several dive villages to choose from here, check out Red Sea Dive Center on this TA site.

2 days in Petra are ideal, try to start early in the morning to avoid the worst heat and enjoy a splash in the pool to cool off in the afternoon. A good hotel with a nice indoor pool with outdoor sitting area is 3* Amra Palace Hotel.

Wadi Rum is too nice to miss, the camps in the Protected area are the nicest but if you want a swimming pool for the kids check out www.baitali.com

Enjoy your trip !

I agree with the two previous comments.

Additional info: apart from being the hottest month, in 2012 most of August will be also Ramadan, until around the 19th Aug.

There are pros and cons about travelling during Ramadan, you can read more details here:

your-guide-to-aqaba-jordan.com/travel-during…

The hotel prices will increase by the end of Ramadan for the Eid al Fitr holidays that will last from the 20th Aug until the end of the following weekend.
