Just one thing to point out, if you're buying alot of clothes look out for the excess luggage charges! I ended up paying another $270 in excess handling charges to get my luggage onto the plane... but it still worked out cheap for the amount of clothes I had made.

Another excellent tailor is Thu Thuy (located at 60 Le Loi.) They do extremely high quality work. Very fast, very professional, and probably the largest fabric selection in Hoi An. Ask for Bi ("bee")-- she was wonderful to work with. Side note: If you have a specific design in mind, be sure to bring a picture as the catalogs all of the tailor shops have tend to be a bit on the dated side.

Nguyet Thu (located in 156 Tran Phu Street) is one of the best tailors that should definitely recommended. They made a very good quality of suits, nice style with our own requirement or copy in the catalogue. Quick and in time(they even did it overnnight to meet customers' need) to have very nice suits for us.

This is the earliest tailor risen in Hoi An and they have good experience with tailoring and customers.

Definitely this is reasonable. I just came back from Vietnam and had heaps of clothes made in Hoi An. I put in my orders at 12noon and went back for fittings at 5pm! A couple needed adjustments and were back 9pm that night.

I would recommend Phuoc An Cloth Shop - 6 Le Loi Street. Really professional and excellent quality clothes.

I'm going to be in China for 2 weeks after leaving Vietnam and I know it will be a lot cooler. Is it reasonable to have a jacket ( maybe a NorthFace style shell) made overnight in HoiAn, or would it make more sense to wait and try to buy something in Beijing? Anyone know?

I just got back from Hoi An and bought a lot of clothes. We were going to be there 5 nights, and I had clothes made from three different tailors, two "high end" and one of the budget ones. I got what I paid for... Reviews:

Yaly Couture: Expensive for Hoi An, but cheap for anywhere else. Suits are $50-$200 based on fabric. They can make just about anything for men or women. The place is large and the "women" (huge posse of like-dressed assistants) are very professional. It took several fittings to get stuff right but they spoke excellent English and got the job done. Great attention to detail. Excellent fabrics except for shirt cottons, which were a little scratchy. Shirts were $12. We spent a fortune and had it shipped -- reasonable shipping costs.

Thu Thuy: Even more expensive than Yaly (for most items). Looks small from the street but the place is large once you get inside. Good tailoring and professional staff (but far more disorganized than Yaly). "Standard" styles are not as fashionable as Yaly, in my opinion. And I don't think the tailors were as talented as Yaly. The key here was the cotton fabrics -- much softer and silkier than Yaly, but about double the price, too. Worth it though.

Mr. Xe: One of the standard, cheaper places. The guy was a thief and couldn't make a suit to save his life. $55 for a suit I threw away when I got home. I had to pay for it because he stole my wife's money! I had left a $20 deposit but wanted to just forfeit the deposit and leave the suit. But my wife had had a few things made there. When she went to pick them up, he took her money but wouldn't give her the clothes! He said that I couldn't cancel and he wasn't giving her her clothes until I paid for mine. And he wouldn't give her the money back she gave him for her clothes! This was EXTREMELY dishonest and a fight broke out. Finally we gave him the money for my suit, which I promptly threw out when I got home. I went to about 10 fittings for the suit, but he never made the changes I wanted. Also the guy treats his employees very badly and the shop is extremely dirty. I strongly recommend you avoid this charming but dishonest and incompetent tailor.

Mr. Xe is the worst. The items he made me in December 2005 didn't even make it to one wearing. All the buttons fell apart on the first attempt to button them, the lining sagged by the time I got back to the U.S. and the cut/fit is horrendous. My husband too found that his shirts don't fit well, fell apart quickly and are not well made.

Whatever you do, don't go to Nguyet Thu! It seems that some of the positive comments about these people on the web have gone to their heads. The manager of the store (the one girl who speaks English) had the biggest attitude and clearly needs to learn some lessons in customer service. During the four days that I was getting my clothing made, her demeanor became progressively ruder and offensive. However, since she had my 50% deposit I was stuck dealing with her.

I spent four days trying to get a dress made and went into the shop numerous times to have it altered. At the outset, I had requested that it be lined and was told that it would be once the alterations were complete. It was only on my last day in Hoi An, that I was informed that the tailor could not put the lining in because of the material and style of the dress. You would have thought that I would have been told this at the beginning rather than when they knew that I was leaving.

To make matters worse, when I put the "finished" dress on - none of the alterations from the previous day had been made. I also noticed that the stitching along the seams was very loose and came apart easily (you could see my skin along the seams in certain places). When I asked whether this would be fixed, I was told by the manager that this was "normal" and how the tailors made all of their clothes!

I had a number of items made at Thu Thuy and Yaly. Not only were the prices at these stores only marginally more expensive, but the quality of the clothing made was much better. You will have a much more pleasant experience at one of these places than Nguyet Thu.

Would definately recommend Yaly, I got two pairs of linen shorts made for a fantastic price and it only took a couple of hours
