This was what I posted as my latest summary: - "In the first place Limon Restaurant has moved from it’s old location to the waterfront, on the opposite side of the stream to Can Restaurant. They’re still doing their cheap ‘juicy food’ lunches and local intelligence says that owner/chef Ramazan won’t change his prices despite the more upmarket site. Café West has expanded and is still popular with the smart set, whether foreign or Turkish. Very good reports have been received on ‘Café de Café’, on the main street near Mercan Pizza (which is still great value, good pizzas and hamburgers and a cheap Turkish lunchtime specials). ‘Café de Café’ has been taken over by the former chef from Café West and also does cheap Turkish lunches. Two French marine engineers reported that their steaks are excellent too, and a few lira cheaper than anywhere else. Blues has also expanded to take over the next-door Denizli Hotel and restaurant and is continuing its offer of free food for under-8’s every day and two main courses for the price of one on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The fish pie is still highly recommended and makes a nice change. The Belediye has continued to smarten up the main square, which has been re-paved and extended. Lara Restaurant continues there, alongside Migros, but the expensive fish restaurant/shop has moved to the other side of town, west of Skopea Marina. There’s a new noodle bar by the side of the Magic Marina bar, which has moved into the modern square off the waterfront. We had a really good meal at the fish shop/restaurant that’s also in that square last year, but haven’t repeated yet as it was too cold to eat outside on most evenings. Palm, up the road past the PTT, with its tables in an orange grove, is still going strong, as is the Kebab Hospital (loved by some, disliked by me!). Mosaic, on the waterfront, is still supposed to be good for steaks, but I had a very sub-standard beef stroganoff there last week – still, Walter, a cat who adopted me last year, seemed to appreciate it! I’ll be sticking to Nur for that dish in future. Can Restaurant in the Skopea Marina building continues to be a popular favourite, good, fresh, fish and excellent meze. A good place to meet people is the Grapevine wine bar, opened by the former proprietress of ‘Alternative’, in the part of the Denizli Hotel facing the main street. This, like many other places (Mercan, Café West, Magic Marina) also has a free wifi facility, very useful when ‘superonline’ have let you down!" | ||||||
