Living in Kas

We are considering buying a home in Kas, but are concerned whether the town "shuts down " out of season. Can anyone shed some light on whether the town is still buzzing when the summer season ends.

Hello EdenKent

I would hardly call Kas "buzzing" at any time!

Yes Kas does become very quiet in the winter but it doesn,t "shut down". Life still goes on here. There are several restaurants that stay open as does all the supermarkets and many other shops. Mainly it is Uzun Carsi that closes down (the cobbled street) and all of the other tourist shops. The market still continues on a Friday.

I really enjoy the winters here as it,s a good time to walk around the surrounding areas and learn all about this region.

And if this winter is anything like the last one, what could be nicer than sitting in the Tea Garden on a sunny Sunday reading the papers.

Hi Edenkent - yes, Kas is certainly more of a year round working town than somewhere like Kalkan which is definitely more tourist base..!!

Whilst hardly buzzing - there will still be places and things open as it is a very turkish town where local people live and work and therefore will be more open all year round!! Having said that - even kalkan has more open year on year (mainly restaurants) but really only the odd shop open - you will have more choice in Kas!

Enjoy - you won't regret your decision to buy in this lovely place!!

Cheers!
