there is the eurobar, its not a bad bar. Quite friendly and the owner is a wicked dancer. Just ask any taxi driver and if u need any help its round the corner from the latino, which everybody seems to know.

Thanks for that, is it a cay club or just gay friendly? Is there many gay tunisians? Like im going with my friend (a Girl) I know she's gonna get a lot of attension but what about me!! Does anyone know if its popular with gay people!! Not going on holiday purely for that reason but a little attension would be nice!!

Hammamet seems to be gay friendly. I was taken to the eurobar by a gay tunisian and told by another that it is a gay bar, because of other women being there i wasn't too sure.

Dont worry Raymond just wander out by yourself and sit in any cafe/bar and you probably get as much attention as your girl friend.

If there is anything there in the Gay area, would you please post it here? My bf and I will be going to Hammamet from August 14th - 29th...we're no scene queens, but it would be kewl to go to a gay hangout some time during our stay...

Just got back yesterday, I was only on a weeks holiday.... went to what was supposed to be EuroBar but it was empty so did not go in went again another nite and same again empty!! Also it did not say Eurobar outside and got a taxi to it twice and both taxi driver assured us that it was Eurobar!! I did not fing any gay bars but the Havanna Bar was cool and I did have a good time anyway. Strangely the Disco in our hotel ( Le Hammamet Hotel ) was packed with Tunisian Men all Dancing with each other (very closely and looked very gay) and I got more attention that my friend Vicky did!! I was convinced some nites that it was gay but maybe that was because I was drunk, at one stage the dance floor was full of only Men!! I think the Tunisian men go out together and dance with eachother while their women are at home! I really was very unsure of what to make of it??

It is very similar to Indian and Muslim culture, as homosexuality is illegal and often seen not to exist - therefore the men are very affectionate with each other as it is seen as 'safe' i.e. they couldn't possible be gay as it is impossible and/or illegal. It takes some getting used to, as it can appear 'gay' when it is genuinely not.

 I am off to Tunisia in January - havent booked yet as dont know the safest place - as in the least homophobic. Any suggestions?? Also, where is best (hotel-wise) for independant travellors in Tunisia? I dont want to be stuck in a hotel with couples and kids.
