We have been to Tunisia 9 times but never Djerba.

What is the situation regarding Car Hire?

can anyone recommend some nice sandy beaches or day excursions.

Been to ElJem, Sahara and the Star Wars thing - looking for something different. We are staying at the Iberostar Mehari - any warnings??

Sounds that you have done most of that area.There is a Roman site at Githis on the mainland appart from Djerba itself not much else that you have not seen according to your post
