Rainy, September is the second wettest month of the year. Things in Patong will be open, but in Kamala, it is quiet, quiet, quiet. No beach loungers on the sand, many closed restaurants, no shops on the board walk, but then again you have to beach to yourself.

Yes everything is still open, never closes in Phuket

the weather is monsoonal but that doesnt mean it will rain all the time, usually overnight and/or early evening and sometimes occassional heavy shower or two some days, but lots of sunny days also and still hot and humid, the only thing is the sea can be a bit rough so not too good for swimming,

we are also going in Sept this year so hope it only rains at night time

we have been many times and always wet season, May, June and Sept and the weather has never stopped us having a good time, even been in the pool in the middle of a heavy storm LOL :) which only lasted about 10 min then was gone and all hot and sunny again, even got some good island tours in and had great sunny days

Do appreciate the climate in Thailand in September is very different between the Andaman side ( eg Phuket, Khao Lak, Krabi etc ) and the Gulf of Thailand side ( eg Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan and mainland beaches ).

Average rainfall in mm in September:

Phuket area: 417 mm

Koh Samui area: 113 mm

You can enjoy yourself in Phuket anytime but be aware that the weather does vary and you must take great care swimming in the sea, watch for red flags and even if not take great care as there are dangerous undercurrents.

Koh Samui and nearby islands quite busy in early September

I went to Phuket in late September 2009 for 7 nights. 2 of the nights it rained, but only for a few hours. There was only one day where it rained all day, but would often rain for 10 minutes then stop for half hour. I think the longest it constantly rained for was maybe 30 mins.
