Anyone at the Merlin Beach Resort From 17th March

Just thought we would see if anyone is at the Merlin Beach Resort Patong between the 17th - 31st March 2010.

Would be great to catch up with anyone from TA. This will be our first time east of the UK, so don't know what to expect. A little apprehensive, especially about the so called 'mafia' run tuk tuk's!!

I would appreciate any feedback on either patong in general, Merlin beach resort, how to deal with tuk tuk drivers without getting ripped off, advice on a good reasonably priced tailor (how much should we be paying for a suit?) or any one of the above.

One final thing is money, should we be taking travellers cheques in sterling? If using a card from an ATM, surely this will use the uk currency conversion rate which is alot lower I believe? please can someone confirm.

Many, many thanks to all that are able to respond,

Ian & Shell

1. Re: Anyone at the Merlin Beach Resort From 17th March

We really enjoyed our stay at the Merlin Beach Resort a couple of years ago.

Unfortunately, staying at the Merlin means that you will have to use taxis/tuk tuks unless you use the resort bus. As the resort bus is free it is also very popular so you might have to queue. Note that the bus only runs during the day.

Just using a tuk tuk means you are being ripped off on Phuket and prices are certainly non-negotiable between the Merlin and Patong - 200 baht. Grin and bear it or hire a car and driver, a car or a scooter.

If you have not already done so, please read the FAQ - Currency Options at the top RHS of the Patong Forum. If you do choose to take travellers cheques you don't want to waste money by changing currencies twice so take GBP cheques.
