Best places for Elephants & Monkeys?

Hi we will be in Hua Hin on 31st Dec for a week with our 2 girls (15 & 11) they are really keen to ride on Elephants & see some Monkeys.

Can anyone advise on the bet places to do this?

Thanks

Easy to do both, there are 4 places that I know of for riding elephants and probably the best is Elephant Country on the Pala U waterfall road just 10 minutes from town centre, any taxi or tuk tuk driver would know it.

As for monkeys, well the aptly named monkey mountain is where you'll be tripping over them, its down at Takiab at the far end of the road there up a very steep drive with some beautiful views of the Hua Hin coastline as well.

The mountain is called Khao Takiab, "chopstick mountain". Do be careful of monkeys as they can bite. If you venture further south to Prachuab town, Mirror Mountain is famed for its hordes of monkeys, also very aggressive.

Most of the better hotels will have something organised and some will do so freely and some will charge a fortune so firstly check with your hotel.

Market Village usually puts on a very good show for free with a disco and some other entertainments and Chang Beer will be promoting it and the beer is sometimes flowing often freely according to our past experiences but do get there early especially if wanting to sit.

Other than that have a wander around the Bintabat area for some lovely local colour and take part in whatever takes your fancy.

Thanks, we are staying at the Centara and have already got some sort of Gala Dinner included but if this is anything like the celebrations in Koh Chang on Christmas Eve last year, we will eat our dinner and go out!

Thanks again.

be warned if you go to monkey mountain that they will literarly rip any food out of your hand as they did to our poor tuk tuk driver. We also went with siam pearl cruises to "monkey island" where the locals were a bit more sedate.

We were talked out of trying to see elephants in wild by our holiday rep who instead suggested visiting hutsadin elephant "foundation". The claim was it was supposed to be a charitable caring place for retired/abandonded show elephants. This claim is at best a stretching of the truth. I was not pleased at all by the conditions or treatment. The elephant village in hua hin is supposed to be even worse. In hind sight i wish id taken gamble and tried to see if i could find wild elephants.

If you want to see elephants in the wild then Kui Buri is 90 mins south, no contact with them, it is like viewing 'on safari' style. There are also other wild animals there. You can see video clips for there if you search down the posts on the Hua Hin forum.

Khao Takiab has lots of monkeys, as others say do watch them though, you don't need to feed them.
