What's on this week in Khao Lak?

There are a number of events that take place throughout the year in Khao Lak ,aside from the tours and many Things to Do, that might interest members. For instance a number have enjoyed attending, though never winning, one of the regular Quiz Nights held in aid of local charities at various venues. These continue throughout the year as it provides entertainment for the various volunteers from all over the world and their teachers/organisers as well as the local volunteer community and ex-pats.It is intended that these will be held every other week from now on and will state in advance the recipient Charity as some people have suggested this will encourage attendance and, hence, raise more money.

On the other hand there are other events that are not attended as well probably because they are not well advertised or they are advertised in Thai which most people don't understand. For example, the annual "Welcome to Phang Nga New Season Opening Ceremony" and exhibitions, held at the beginning of December and the Temple Fair at the Bang Niang Temple just a few weeks ago are great opportunities to enjoy Thai life and mingle with them. Even though very welcome you do feel like strangers in a foreign land but it is all the more enjoyable for it.

So it is intended to post details of what is going on weekly in Khao Lak from now in - if and when our loyal providers of information in Khao Lak provide details and I will add it. Or if any member becomes aware of a forthcoming event please feel free to add details but not too far in the future please.

I will ask TripAdvisor to make this a Sticky so that it will remain live at the top of the topics list (hope springs eternal that new members will read the Stickies and the Top Question FAQs.).

1. Re: What's on this week in Khao Lak?

So here we go.

Week beginning 17th February 2014:

* Wednesday 19th February 2014

Quiz Night at Lazy House Bar, Bang Niang, opposite the Police Boat/just up from entrance to the Bang Niang Market. Teams of 2-4, 100 baht per person, Start 8pm

Object: To support a fund started by Andy Cutting, the genial owner of Walkers Inn, to provide the "Jaws of Life" equipment for use by Khao Lak Rescue, the incredible band of volunteers using equipment largely provided from donations (or themselves!) who provide the bulk of Emergency Services in and around Khao Lak. "Jaws of Life" is the expensive equipment necessary to gain access to people trapped in a vehicle following a serious Road Traffic Accident. In these circumstances every second counts to free the trapped person and this equipment is vital for this purpose.

* Saturday 21st February 2014

Manta and Shark Night, Khao Lak

Venue, Sparrow Bar, Bang Niang, on the right down the Beach road from the 711 in Bang Niang. Start 7pm.

Dr Fabrice Jaine from the Marine Megafauna Foundation will present his work about manta rays and their 'Ray of Hope' Expeditions. Shark Guardian will also update the audience about their work whilst showing some cool videos and photos of sharks.
