Elephant orphanages

We are staying at Bentota beach in October and was wondering which orphanage is best/largest/closest for getting up close and hands on with the Elephants?

pinnawala orphanage

the government -run pinnawala orphanage .near kegalle ,was setup to save aband oned or orphaned wild elephantsit has now grown into the most popular jumbo attraction in sri lanka ,and and with good reaseon, for now here else except at (procesions) are you likely to see many elephants at close quarters, the elephant are controlled by their mahouts (keepers)who ensure

they feed at the right times and don't endanger anyone ,but otherwise the elephant roam freely around the sanctuary area.

there are so young elephants and some are suprisingly small, this must be one of the few places where an eliphant can step on your foot and you might walk away with a smile! bathing times for the babies are from 10 am to 12 noon ,from 2pm to 4pm , with meal times at 9:15 am , 1:15 pm and 5pm, most of the elephants became working elephants onethey grow up , ocasionally, one of the old female elephants produces a baby to add to the herd ,,,,,

ther is a elephant millennium project same area can ride the elephant , wash the elephant ,, hope it will helpful
