manta rays

Staying in/around Labuan Bajo for a few days in April. Would really like to see manta rays (snorkeling). Which is the best area to see them within a couple of hours by boat?

thanks and regards Z+M

We met people who went on a snorkelling trip to Manta Point and saw them. Obviously they aren't right on the surface but it's easy to dive down to get a closer look, and they are so massive they are very easy to see.

It's worth noting these snorkelers were coming from Kanawa not Labuan Bajo.

We went diving from Kanawa to Manta Point twice last May and we were fortunate to see them on both occasions. However it's nature and you can't be guaranteed to see them every day.

The first time we went we only saw one and the next time only two (but they stayed with us for about 20 minutes). The week before people had snorkelled and seen about 15. It's just pot luck.

So - yes you can do day trips from LBJ to see them by snorkelling. Good luck
