Thinking of a stopover in Batam before KL - can anyone tell us what it is like for golf and relaxing (wife who doesn't indulge in golf!) Is it as expensive as Singapore, is it safe? Would appreciate anyone's thoughts as to whether it is worth visiting for 4 days. Thanks.

Batam is alot cheaper than Singapore for most things. Very good cheap shopping and food. Some beaches though not as good as over on Bintan which has some great resorts and good snorkelling.
It's safe and friendly as well on Batam. Alot of people speak english as are used to expats coming over from Singapore.
