rip from Dehli

Hello, I will be in Dehli for business trip, have a free sat and sun, thinking of visiting Taj Mahal for 1 day. Would it be easier to join a tour from the hotel? If so any suggestion for tour operator?

Otherwise, would it be better to stay overnight in Agra?

You may checkout www.namasteindiatours.com they get good reviews here.

Panicker Travels also do a daily coach tour to Agra. There are many others.

You may book your own train tickets in comfy Shatabdi Express stay at Agra, this will give you opportunity to visit Taj at Dawn and Dusk both times.

Oh ! Forgot to write that if you wish to see Taj both at dusk and dawn you'll have to stay at Agra and return by next day Shatabdi.

Dear Ng - if you have Saturday and Sunday both available, it would be good to do an overnight trip to Agra. That way you can see the Taj by dawn, which is the best time to enjoy the monument when the play of light on the marble is beautiful. If I were you, I would do it like this:

Sat - Morning sightseeing of New and Old Delhi, afternoon drive to Agra, check in

Sun - Dawn visit to the Taj Mahal, breakfast, check out, visit Agra Fort and drive back to Delhi

If your hotel in Delhi is already paid for, then you can do a same-day trip to Agra, usually tiring, but a lot of people do it.

If you go by road the day trip takes a total of 14 hours. You leave your hotel at say, 6:30 a.m., get to Agra by 11:00 a.m., complete the sightseeing and leave at 3:00 p.m., returning to Delhi bu 8:00 p.m.

If you go and return by express trains, then you leave the hotel at 5:30 a.m., reach Agra by 8:15 a.m., complete the sightseeing by 12:00 noon, then have lunch, and then there is a wait for the return train, the Taj Express leaves at 6:15 p.m. and reaches Delhi at 10:00 p.m., and you will be back in your hotel by 10:30 or 11:00 p.m. So the train trip takes a little longer, although the train is faster about 17 hours.

There are several reviews of tour operators on this website. If you use the Search feature above and type "tour operator recommendation" or "trip report" or "thank you" you will see the companies that have been recommended frequently by travellers. That is a reliable way to find out genuine recommendations.

If you are not staying in a very expensive hotel, it is very easy to ask your hotel to arrange a car for you to go to Agra and come back. In expensive hotels the cars will be costly.

There are no commercial flights operating to Agra. You have to go by road or by train.

Hi,

I would recommend travel by superfast Shatabadi Express ( 0615 / 0800 hours ) and return by same train.

This shall give you the opportunity to visit Fatehpur Sikri also which is very historic and interesting..35 kms from Agra. You can also visit Agra Fort and Tomb of Itmad Ud Daulah ( known as baby Taj )besides Tajmahal at Sunset.

Travel by car both ways may be tiring since it is over 4 hours each way and then sightseeing time of 4 hours plus with lunch break....

If possible stay overnight in Agra is still better..

If it is a day trip then it will be too hectic and to tiring in this hot and humid weather. Also if you are coming here within next few days then good will be you stay overnight and see the Taj at dawn and from other side of the river at Dusk. Beside that you can visit Agra Fort,Sikandra ,Itmad-ud-daula(Mini Taj) and Fatehpur sikri that is 40 kms. out side this city and world heritage site diclared by the UNESCO.

You can come by car or as suggested by KY you can come by morning train Shatabdi exp. and leave this city next day for Delhi againby Shatabdi exp. in the evening.

There is no flight from Delhi to Agra. There was one but not any more.
