Hi

No better time to visit Ooty than September, if you prefer cooler weather. It is right after the rains and is lush green all over.

There are no flights to Ooty. you can fly into Coimbatore (which is 90 Kms away from Ooty) and take a cab to Ooty.

Else, you can fly into Chennai, take an overnight train to Mettupalayam (which is the foot hills of Ooty) and switch to the toy train from Mettupalayam to Ooty.

Dear Duckiederby,

Ooty is good but its roads were not in good condition (Jan 2007 ) ,the atmosphere of Kodaikkanal is mind blowing. If you spend 3 days in Ooty I would recommend you to spend 10 days in Kodaikkanal.

Regards,

Mayur.

Ooty can be visited well in september if you prefer cooler weather. And it is not sure that monsoon may not be heavy. The nearest airport from ooty is Coimbatore ooty. So you can hire a cab or else you can avail the service of TNSTC(Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation) bus service.

You can have good sight seeing at the following places

Botanical gardens,

lamb’s rock

Dobabetta peak,

kalhatty fallskandal,

cross shrine,

mini garden

rose garden

and many more. For more info plz visit www.ooty.net

Am I the only one who does not find any charm in Ooty, other than relief from Chennai's summer heat?

Not really Deepa, you are right. Ooty during peak season is not a place you would want to be in. Public places like Gardens, Lakes and view points are packed like sardines and the winding roads are a motorist nigthmare. This little town was not designed to take the kind of crowds that land up at the peak season (especially during mid may, when the famous Flower Show happens) and hence basic public amenities take a beating.

However, the same place, during off season (not the rainy season) is an amazing experience. The old world charm is still to be experienced, right from the Wellington Barracks, to the Lawley club. From the famous assembly hall cinemas to the Aranmore palace, the quaint Britsh legacy lingers on. This is also the time the strawberries abound and traditional chocolate houses like Kings Star etc churn out their lipsmacking homemade chocolates and marshmallows. The lush vegitation after the rains blanket the valleys and the mountains transforming this place. It is indeed heaven on earth.

Personally, i feel the Charm of Ooty is during the off season, provided you enjoy (or atleast - can put up with) the cold!!

regards

Rajan
