You could consider Alleppey, which is a canal town, or Kottayam (which is closer to Munnar-it's almost midway) , or, Varkala, which is about an hour from Trivandrum and has a very nice ambience.

you can also consider Fort Cochin ( if that doesnt come in your itinerary before your stay at Munnar )

approx 4 & 1/2 hours to FortCochin from Munnar

5 hours approx to Trivandrum

or Marari and varkala as stated above ( if your place for stay is not Kovalam . in Trivandrum)
