First time to Goa..need help! |
|
Hi, I am travelling to India for my first time.I will be Udaipur for 8 weeks Oct-Dec then I am looking at staying in Goa Dec22-Jan3 or so. I am travelling alone. I am looking for a reasonable hotel on or close to the beach. I dont want crazy busy, but would like to enjoy the company of other tourists. Love to chill on the beach or poolside. Any tips for an adventurous 51 yr old woman from Canada? Thanks! |

Hi, Try the Marquis Beach resort hotel or the Sonnesta Inn,both near the beach and they both have nice pools, not far from restaurants and bars,i have stayed at them both several times. Cheers Rita

I've been to India 6 times and my parents live in Sinquerim near Candolim in Goa. We are going in Dec and staying at the Sonesta Inns in Candolim, the reviews are very good and my parents said it looks lovely and peaceful and a good reasonably priced hotel. It is right on the beach and located just outside Candolim so it's away from the busiest part but close enough for you to enjoy all the lovely restaurants and shops and get chatting to other tourists. If you want somewhere very very quiet and a real chill out place then I would recommend a hotel located on the beachside in mojim, but there's not much else there other that the lovely views of the sunset. I hope this helps.

Just a word of warning - you will need to book early as you'll be there over Christmas and new year, and that is the busiest time of year. The north gets VERY busy around that time and hotel prices rocket.

We stayed at The Sonesta last year, the hotel was very nice if lacking in a bit of character and we felt that some of the staff were less than helpful. Downside for us was that it is quite isolated at the end of road which has little on it other than a few tiny shops and 1 or 2 small bar type restaurants. We like to walk out in an evening finding places to eat/drink other than the hotel and there was little to walk out to, meaning that every time we wanted to go beyond the hotel we had to scooter or taxi, which become irksome sometimes. However if this is OK with you then I'm sure the Sonesta will be fine.

Hi Kahuna 777, I have recently returned from my first visit to Candolim we stayed at the Sunset Beach Hotel it is very close to the beach 300 yards or so and also close to the Resteraunts shops bank etc. Although it is only 2 star bed and breakfast they do complimentary evening meals and have a Bar where you can sit and chat into the wee small hours.I found it to be very comfortable clean and the staff were great. On my return i immediately booked for the same time next year to meet up with people we met this time tourists and locals

hi kahuna, you could try south goa, cavelossim for instance, the holiday inn on mobor beach is right on the beach and a 20/30 minute walk into cavelossim,or a 3/4 minute taxi ride,100irp?,plenty of bars restaurants and shops to choose from, beach shacks close by,i'd say everything you need really for a nice holiday, loads of places to go from there,waterfalls,spice- plantations,churches/temples whatever your looking for. but, like someone else said, over the christmas/new year period, you need to book early. tom
