Tropitel Dahab Oasis Hotel at Christmas

Hi folks,

Has anyone been to this hotel at Christmas ?

Will it be very busy with people ?

We don't mind quiet evenings but do like a few people around for a bit of atmosphere and a nice drink.

Will Dahab in general be busy, I know some places are suffering with the resission.

Many thanks for any comments.

These are crystal ball questions, Annie, as everyone waits to see who wins the elections and what the aftermath is.

If former PM Ahmed Shafiq wins it could bring the Moslem Brotherhood out to violently protest the result and the new powers that the military has awarded itself. Although it isn't necessarily logical, trouble in Cairo affects the number of tourists visiting the Sinai which is why Dahab is quiet, not so much because of the recession.

If Mohammed Mursi and the Moslem Brotherhood win the election you may find that your "nice drink" will be non-alcoholic and you'll be going swimming in a burkhini.

No real loss really egyptian spirits taste like terebenthine, wine like petrol and beer like british lager.

The zibib, or Egyptian version of ouzo, is pretty decent quality and very nice on the rocks or mixed with fruit juice. Yep, the local wine is hard going but a bottle of Omar Khayyam with a big bowl of pasta sometimes hits the spot. A couple of ice-cold Stellas at Churchill's at sunset looking over the sea is always a good idea.

You have to have a glass-half-full attitude!
