Getting an upgrade

What is the best way to try to get an upgrade on a room? My daughter and I are going to AC on a Monday nite for a birthday celebration. I would love to surprise her with a Suite or a nicer room. Should I just ask nicely or flash some cash? ;)

on a monday in winter, i would think asking nicely and mentioning the birthday would be all you need do to get a nicer room, perhaps one with a view. a suite might be harder to come by. i don't recommend flashing cash, but if you want to tip a helpful desk agent after s/he provides you with an upgrade, go right ahead.

If you don't have a good gambling history with whatever resort you're staying at your chance of a free upgrade to a suite is slim. Most suites are held for highly rated gamblers. I wouldn't flash cash instead flash a smile and explain your special occasion and hope for the best. If turned down find out what it would cost to get a suite. Hopefully since you were so nice maybe they'll work with you. You certainly have a better shot this time of year on a Monday night.

Suites aren't as easy to come by in Atlantic City compared to a place like Vegas.

What property are you staying at? There are some properties in AC that are more liberal with their suites compared to others. If you're staying at any CET property (Bally's, Caesars, Showboat or Harrah's) I would rule out the possibility of a suite. They are pretty strict with them. I think your best hope would be at the Taj.

Suites upgrades during the week and during the winter are the best odds you have overall.

CET is very strict with them and Taj has a suite committee so no go there either.

YMMV- 20 dollar trick.

Taj rents some of their suites out to anyone willing to pay- she's much more likely to get an upgrade there compared to properties where suites are not on sale to the general public.

I was able to get a Grand Suite at the Taj for a reasonable price so I think GardinaPalm's suggestion to try the Taj is a good one. The only suite at CET properties that I even have been given the option to book has been the House of Blues suite at Showboat. At Borgata I've only recently had the Flori suite as an option for me comped before I could pay for one but only midweek.

It would be helpful if you told us what property you're staying at so we can make recommendations. There are usually several regulars here that will know the best rooms at all the casinos in the City. I could give you ideas for several and the places I don't know there will be others here that will be able to help you.

Sorry to the op but I'm gonna piggyback on this one if ok. I will be at harrahs march 11 and 12. Mon and tues. Staying in waterfront premium for 43 a night. Is there an upgrade from that? I'm not a big gambler. I see they do offer for sale the waterfront corner suit to the public for 550 a night. I saw somwhere when asking for upgrade you can slip a 20 between your license and credit card? Thanks for any info.

Or you could just pay for a suite,. It's not like they are that expensive on a Monday night in the winter (assuming you are doing this reasonably soon).

On my last three trips I booked a comped Deluxe room(basic room) and ended up with:

1. BT Premium room

2. BT Suite (24th Floor)

3. Showboat Mini-Suite

I didn't flash any $$$$ or suggest that any was coming. (Although I did tip each time AFTER I was checked in).

Talk to the reps the right way, and they will help you if they can......

Remember these people take a beating from customers all day long........" I need a suite, smoking, my host promised me, I'm not leaving without a suite I lost $200 dollars today get me a suite or get your supervisor....... "

"Its not like they are expensive"

Weekday advertised price for Harras waterfront corner suit was 550. That's pretty expensive to me....
