I would like to visit as many local markets as possible in the areas of Dali, Kunming, Lijiang and Shangri La. Of course, agencies give no clue as to the day these markets are held/best. Shaping market is on Mondays, but this is the only market date I have located so far. It makes no sense to go to the local market on the wrong day. Can anyone add a market and its day? Thanks for the help.
The Bradt Guide to Yunnan lists a lot of market days, however the book is over two years old.
I would really inquire locally at to the best days. Your hotel should know, and if they do not, try the tourist info offices. There will be a lot of duplication of merchandise, based on my market shopping in Yunnan.
The Lijiang market in the old town runs everyday. Walk past Mu's Mansion and a bit further on some of the alley ways lead to it. If you can't find it someone will point you in the right direction.
It's a great market but sometimes tourists miss it or can't find it in the rabbit warren of streets so persevere as it is worth it.
It is a traditional market where the locals shop. Lots of interesting food sections, like meat, live poultry, plants & flowers, fruit & veg. Great fun too walk around.
check the kunming markets - not as western touristed... the bird/spider mkt is a beauty - and besides - just down the alley people sell hot chips (like oz and england) and bamboo rice -- my personal favorite.
