All major universities should have a hotel on campus - since dignatries often come to stay - they usally have some nice accomodation. I think asking your friend to check up on the campus hotel would be the best bet.

As for Zhaojue Si qiche zhan - that's the very pleasant temple found just next door to Chengdu Zoo. It's on the edge of the north part of town so you wont be able to get a bus to Leshan from there - you need to take to a bus station to do that - Xinnanmen bus station in the middle of town is your best bet. Some Leshan buses can be found in the bus station near the North railway station - which is not so far from that temple - but finding these buses could be difficult if you can't speak Chinese and are not failiar with the area.

By the way that temple is convenient if you wanted to go to Panda research center, which is further up the road.

4-star hotel in Chenghua Qu is Tibet Hotel, which is highly recommended.

There are 10 miniutes taxi ride from Tibet to Chengdu U.Science & Technology.

For the Leshan Buddha（乐山大佛） visit, The Xinnanmen Bus Station(新南门汽车站) would be right place to go there.
