With the security surge due to games - and the Kunmimg bombs - most luggage deposit services have been suspended at major travel hubs. I would think this is still the case at Chengdu airport.

As for getting a cab late at night - no problems. Its best to negotiate a fare for the airport trip rather than using the meter - that fare used to be around 60RMB - but with recent fuel hikes you'll maybe have to spend a bit more.

In the night, with light inner-city traffic the taxi should take under an hour - you also may have to fork-out 10RMB toll for using the airport motorway. This charge was suspended just after the quake, but I have an idea its being taken again.

As for your luggage question - you could ask you hotel if they could store it, rather than have to lug it all the way to Lijiang and back.

The Chengdu hotel should be ok to keep the luggage for free till you come back, but it might be inconvenient for you to come back for it, I presume?

Late at night? I don't think it would be a problem to get a taxi if you're talking about from the airport.

Thanks for the replies. Think I will leave the luggage at the hotels in the city area and go back to get it on my last day, since getting a cab from airport at night is not an issue. :)
