Trip To Jiu Zhai gou, ChengDu or Guilin?

I will arrive in MACAU International Airport on 25 Dec 2007, 5am. It turns out that it is difficult to find Macau Dollar in Indonesia (my country). I only manage to get HongKong Dollar instead. My questions:

1. Can I use HongKong Dollar if I want to take bus/taxi to GuangZhou? If I can't, where is the best place to get Macau Dollar?

2. My nephew will pick me up at the bus station in GuangZhou. He lives in the "tian he" area? do you know which bus should I take?

3. I actually plan to go to Tibet through GuangZhou, but very dissappointed with the travel agent in Guangzhou, they are not professional n till now they can't decide whether they will bring us to Tibet. If we want to join tour to Tibet from Macau, which travel agent you can recomment?

4. If I fail to visit Tobet, I n my friend plan to go to ChengDu, Jiu Zhai Gou and guilin by ourselves. What is the best route to those three places? What transportation can we use? any other places that are interesting for us to visit? My plan to China is from 25 Dec - Jan 8, 2008.

5. Thank you for your support n helps.

Arange you're own flight to Tibet (lhasa), by finding cheapest domestic flight(you can get good discounts depending on what day and what flight you take) - there are many internet sites such as elong (just google this word up) - where you can buy e-tickets at good rates. Don't rely on travel agents for anything, they are usually very expensive when dealing with foreigners.

In Lhasa there will be no problems finding accomodation - this is not peak season.

If you come to Chengdu then there are many trips you can make into Sichuan Tibet - for example driving to Tagong can be done with a good days driving - or there is the glacier park at Hailougou which is even closer. Busses run to these places - as they do to Juizhaigou.

1) Taxis cannot bring you over the border. Cross the border and take a bus from the Gongbei border to Guangzhou.

2) Any one going to Tianhe long-distance bus station or Guangzhou East train station.

3) Don't arrange a trip to Tibet from these places. Do it from Chengdu. Look for Sim's Cozy Guesthouse: http://www.gogosc.com

4) Guangzhou - flight - Chengdu - bus - Jiuzhaigou - bus - Chengdu - flight via Guilin - bus - Yangshuo (http://www.yangers.com) - sleeper bus - Guangzhou. Instead of Guilin, go to Yangshuo instead. There're so many interesting places in China, I don't know what YOU would find interesting!

You need a TTB permit to fly to Tibet, and the online plane ticket websites cannot provide this. So if you buy directly from them then are barred from boarding at the airport because you don't have a TTB permit, what are you going to do?

PS - I forgot to say - to enter Tibet you need an entry permit - this you can pick up very easily from from Chengdu (from one of the many hostels that have agencies that specialise in the Tibet trip)- so if you were arranging yourself a stop over in Chengdu would be neccessary.

You're biggest problem is the short time span of the trip, and the fact that it coincides with the Jan 1st holiday - but I'm sure you could squeeze a few days in Tibet on your tight schedule, if you could get that permit quickly.

On a practical side - be prepared to give one day of your Tibet trip up to possible effects of altitude - although Lhasa isn't that high - some people still can feel a little sick as they adjust - especially if they haven't had the chance to gradualy adjust to altitude.

Well, guys, I am back from my trip m just read your messages....anyway, thanks for sure. Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to all of you.

My trip to Jiuzhaigou, Guilin n Yangshou is fun. Unfortunately we didn't make it to Tibet...I missed my plane (long story) n the travel agency in GuangZhou cancelled my trip to Tibet....then when we tried in ChengDu, they said they didn't have any trip to Tibet as there was a big storm at that moment.

Well, I will never give up...Tibet still in my top list in my next trip...this time U make sure to stop by at Sim's (I emailed them already)....thanks again.
