Tipping is not compulsory in China,tipping for good service make the staff happy.

This precedent might pampers the staff to serve foreign guests better over the local.

Except in HongKong:If you under tipped ,the service staff will show a very loooooog and sour rrrrrrrr face

So tipping for good service and nothing for non service will make everybody happy and contented

Tipping is definitely not normal in Hong Kong.

Check your bill at restaurants, they may already add a 10% service charge.

And yes, some will be offended. Some, like tour guides, will be brazen and ask for tips and lie and say their living depends on it, when it does not.

All I can say is that Chinese people do not tip. Period. It is a cutural difference. Go with the flow and follow the culture.
