As first time travellers to Asia we are perhaps a bit concerned about security. Is it best to keep passports with you at all times?

If I bring mine with me(sometimes required when exchanging money) I make sure it is in a safe place on my body. You can stash it in your locked suitcase and it is also a good idea to have a color copy of it with you when you travel.

I usually take a photocopy to use when cashing t/cheques (though next trip will dispense with t/c and use cash and ATMs) and leave p/p in the in-room safe in our hotel (or safety deposit box if no in room safe). No other need to have p/p on you.

Angkorlad made a great suggestion just a couple of days ago - a colour copy or scan/print of your p/p then laminate and carry this - no problem then with wet/dirt/etc.

We found Cambodia safe and the people incredibly friendly - you may just lose your heart like us (and many regular posters on this forum)- the urge to return kicks in quickly.

Avoid aming yourself a possible target - no flashy jewellery or big wads of cash and you will have a wonderful time.

happy travels

The above posters have given you great advice. Including loosing you heart to the Cambodian people!!!!

We never take our passports with us, we leave them safely at the Guest house. We do take them when wanting to change money but even then they were'nt that fussed on seeing them!!!

So keep them safe at the Guest house or Hotel or ask for them to be put in the safe box, you will be fine.
