Armani hotel - taxi

Odd question. But I read somewhere that normal taxi's are not allowed to the hotel entrance and when you leave the hotel there are no normal taxis available and you have to use the hotel's Lexus cars?

Is this true? Surely you can ask for a normal taxi to pick you up?

I've not heard that it may be true but unusual if that is so.

If it is true then just walk round the corner to the main road.

It may be that the person that wrote that was there on a day and at a time when taxis were scarce - the entrance doesn't face a public road so as a consequence you would have to wait for a cab to arrive at the front door to get in one rather than rely on passing cabs.

The hotel cars are very lovely and are usually only 10 or 15% more expensive anyway so faced with a long walk or a long wait it's an option.

Cab from Armani to IBN Battuata roughly 80 dirham

Lexus maybe 100 dirham

So difference is 20 dirham (or less than £4 if from the UK) is it worth worrying about for 4 quid on a one time journey ?

True. Didn't realise the hotel taxi was that cheap? I thought they were a lot more.

Are those Lexus taxis metered or a set fee normally?

No shortage of standard taxis! the staff will call you a local taxi whilst you wait in the lobby. They queue around the corner (out of sight) so you will wait 2 minutes maximum unless one is dropping off and you grab it. You are free to take the taxi of your choice. The hotel has a few cars for guests use ie Lexus and Bentley but they are not metered and cost a lot more than Latimer reckons as they are classed as "hotel limousines" so please dont just jump in without confirming the price!

The Jumeirah and a few other hotels promote the Lexus cabs as they own them!, they do not have a metre and are (like Latimer said) slightly more expensive.
