Hi all,

First time poster but also first time visitor to Dubai so looking for some help with 'things to do'. Me and my girlfriend (both mid 20's) are going for a week in August. After some brief research I have set out an itinerary below which I think fits us well:

Staying at JW Marriott (I know not ideal location but got good deal!)

Day 1 Friday, Arrive early, pool/relax day, all day brunch at JW.

Day 2 - Deira shopping mall, Gold Souk.

Day 3 - Mall of the Emirates, Ski Dubai.

Day 4 - Dubai Creek boat ride, Wafi City, Sundowner tour (arabian adventures).

Day 5 - Jumeira Beach, afternoon tea at burj-al-arab.

Day 6 - Seawings seaplane ride, Dubai Creek dinner cruise

Day 7 - Wild Wadi

Day 8 - depressing home day!

I would really appreciate your feedback on this, if I am missing anything, if it is all worth doing etc?

Two specific questions I have is what is the best way to get from the hotel to seawings base in Jebel Ali Golf Resort? Does anyone know how much a taxi will be? Also, I am looking for some relatively cheap restaurants near my hotel?

Once again, would be really grateful for any help. Thank you.

Generally speaking, what a great itinerary. Only questions are:

Day 5 - do you mean Jumeirah Beach Park and then afternoon tea at the BaA? If so then you could have traffic problems if you're planning on going back to the hotel to change before tea.

Day 6 - similar question. Seawings is based at Jebel Ali as you know - about as far as you can get from JW going towards Abu Dhabi before you hit the border between the two emirates ... at least 45 mins or more in good traffic and in bad traffic conditions (if like today there are road closures and accidents) anything up to 3 hours (you'll have to get a taxi by the way and would guess in good conditions maybe 100dhs or a bit more). Then you'd have to get back to the JW and change again before getting your dinner cruise - and the boats don't wait, generally speaking.

How interested are you really in malls? If not that interested would skip Deira City Centre Mall and would do MoE, SkiDubai, and Gold Souk in one day (in August it's best to do the souks in the evening - if there is a best time lol)

Sure that other's will have different ideas but hopefully they'll all help you to get the best out of your holiday here in Dubai.

I agree with skipping Deira shopping and doing MOE and the Gold Souk in one day. The Burjuman is a great new mall too. The Dubai musuem is quite interesting or maybe visit the Jumeirah Beach Mosque (they have tours on certain days).

The brunch on the friday is great. Don't know if you are aware, but it's a 12 hour brunch. If you get there at say noon, you can eat and drink all you want and then come back later that night for some more. They do stop surving drinks from 4-6 though.

Sounds like the two of you will have a great trip.

Opps, taxi's are fairly cheap. I would say a taxi fair to Seawings, from the JW would be about 170AED. You could rent a taxi for six hours (that's the minimum time) for 300 AED, which would probably be your best bet. That way on your way back to the hotel you could do a little detour and visit Dubai Marina and the Palm.

Hi Gooner,

Sounds like a good week. That fact that you are doing a brunch would suggest you'd enjoy Irish Village for a night out.

A taxi from JW to Jebel Ali will set you back about AED120 (less than 20quid)

There's also a really good chinese restaurant round the corner from JW. Can't remember what it's called, look very 'ethnic' but the food is very good and really cheap.

Wear flip-flops or crocs all around Wild Wadi. The ground is scorching but the water is kept nicely chilled.

Enjoy your break.

Thats fantastic, I really appreciate all your comments. I think I am going to have another look at the itinerary and maybe change a couple of things around.

In terms of Seawings, has anyone used them before? It's my girlfriend's birthday in a couple of weeks and want to have something nice to do while in Dubai, such as a seaplane, helicopter ride etc. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks again.

If you're staying at the JW Marriott make sure you go to the steakhouse there. The food is fantastic and it's a really lovely restaurant.
