Dubai Stop Over

We are planning on a 3 night stop off in Dubai on the return leg of our honeymoon in mid Nov 05.

Had plenty of quotes for hotels inc

Al Bustan Rotana

Jebil Ali

Mina A Salem

Palace at One and Only Royal Mirage

Sheraton Jumeria

Any advice - am bit concerned about the building work, not planning to spend huge time on a beach but nice to go and have a look and not have it a building site.

Any advice on a good hotel in that list and what is the best location to go for - want to explore etc

Forget the Sheraton Jumeirah - they have really drawn the short straw construction wise. Al Bustan Rotana - no beach but good for central locations. Jebel Ali nice but too remote. Palace good but you will look out onto Palm Island construction when viewing seaward. That logically leaves Mina A Salam which, coincidentally, would be my choice.

Mina Al Salam is also in the middle of a construction site! The whole Jumeirah Strip has Palm Island construction in front in the sea and Dubai Marina behind. And they do start work at 6am every morning even on Friday!

Royal Mirage is on the edge of the construction and I would recommend if you've already seen and liked on the web. Also if its your honeymoon then this is where you should definately go!!! The other hotels are amazing too but here you really feel like you're in a palace (what every newlywed bride will want too!).

Al Bustan is certainly no place for honeymooners but its nice enough and in town. As long as your not light sleepers and dont mind plans flying overhead....

BTW Congratulations!!!

But Mina A Salam is not on the Al Sufouh strip, is not as close to Palm island as the Mirage, and, unless they have started building across the Jumeirah Road, has no construction behind it. They're also on the return leg of their honeymoon (Maldives I guess) that may not require a Palace feel. Let's hear Ed's choice after all this.

Just to put another slant on it - you could also consider Jumeirah Beach CLUB and Dubai Marine Beach Resort, both of which are at the other end of the Beach Road, near the Jumeirah Mosque and are not affected by the construction at the other end.

Hmmmmm thats loads to think about, we are stopping off on way back from Mauritius so not planning on lot of time sitting by pool/beach but don't want to be under flight path or miles from anywhere.

So sounds a bit like

Palace - Good location, good hotel but view of building site?

Mina a Salem - ? on the construction but further away

What are the Jumeria beach club etc like suggested by Jaky?

nice-you can either have a groud floor apartment with a big private garden or an upstairs apartment with not much view. Very well kept grounds, tennis courts, access to the private beach, 2 pools, nice restaurants. Gets very busy on fri so depends what day you are here.also close to all amenities ie wild wadi, the Burj, etc although taxis are really cheap and you are well away from the construction!!

Hi Ed

Go for the Jum. Beach Club, been twice myself and the level of service is great, great beach, mature green gardens, you can use the facillities of the other Jumeirah Grp hotels, and its a lot nearer the city if you want to get out and about.

Great health club and fabulous spa.

Only three restaurants, but there are dozens of other places to try.

A much smaller complex than the others and the level of personal attention is second to none.

Have fun

The reviews are all to the left - just click and read. The JBC is a little more private than Mina A Salam but with more dated facilities and much less to do within. It will be a slightly shorter taxi ride from the JBC to the main attractions. Still, a fair suggestion. Up to you Ed.

Ahh... I was think Meridien Mina Al Salam not Madinat Jumeirah, Mina Al Salam. In that case Mina Al Salam or Royal Mirage are equal. Maybe Mina Al Salam is better as there is just so much more to do - shop, looods of restaurants etc

Jumeirah Beach Club is gorgeous. And something people just dont think of. But it is a beach club at the end of the day and if thats what you've been doing in Mauritius.... But its closer to town, although The World (similar idea to the palm) is under construction infront of the beach too.....

hi the mina a salam is not in the middle of the construction site- it and the jebel ali are the only ones not affected. I have been to the mina twice this year are u are not affected at all. So, not all jumeirah area is affected by construction. I would recommend this hotel as it has fantastic facilities; in a great location; has a beautiful 6 senses spa; and located right next to wild wadi. Also, as ur staying in a jumeirah hotel u can get restaurant reservations in the burj al arab.
