 Getting Married

Hi,

I am thinking of geting married in Dubrovnik in August 2006. I was wondering if anyone had any views about which would be the best church to get married in. Have been looking for pictures on the net but no luck so far.

Also would love to know which hotel would be the best to stay for my husband-to-be and I.

Thank you for any help take care

Ive been busy so I havent had time to post answers on this board recently, but I had to reply to this one :)

First off, I will assume at least one of you is Catholic so you can get married in the church. Secondly, you will definately want to get married in the old town. There are several churches in the old town, but almost always weddings are in the cathedral. Google "dubrovacka katedrala" and see images of the church. Unfortunately, their website was suspended so this is the only way to see those pics right now. Here: http://free-du.htnet.hr/Mala-Braca/mapa.htm is a map pointing to another church - Mala Braca, the franciscan monastery (number 2). Number 12 is the church of st. blaise, probably the most famous Dubrovnik church. 15 is the cathedral, 9 is the Jesuit church, 13 is the dominican monastery. Of these, I recommend the cathedral because it will be the most simple to organize and be allowed to have it and the church is large and airy (for August wedding!!!) Also the franciscan monastery (http://free-du.htnet.hr/Mala-Braca/) is beautiful, but difficult to get an ok for the wedding... believe me. For more pics google image words "dubrovnik cathedral". For st. blaise church try "st. blaise dubrovnik" and "sv. vlaho dubrovnik".

Also, how many people will be at the wedding and, if it is many, have you considered hiring someone to help you? You will find this thread most helpful: www.dubrovnik-online.com/forums/index.php…

If it is just you and your fiance then I imagine you wont need much assistance, although it may be nice to have someone help with the arrangements. The thread has lots of recommendations.

For hotels, I suggest Hotel Argentina, Hotel Dubrovnik Palace, or Villa Dubrovnik for the two of you, but it depends on what is more important to you - beach, pool, proximity to town, seclusion, spa, etc.

Hello Crystalone,

I was with my boyfriend in Dubrovnik last September and it is a truly stunning city and definitely very, very romantic, and I'm not the soppy type. We arrived at dusk and stepping into the Old Town was breaktaking for two weary travellers.

There's a very old Franciscan church just inside the gates of the Old Town...any good guide book should have pictures, the church has 7 beautiful side altars along with a stunning main altar. You'd have to check out if they do weddings.

There is only one hotel in the Old Town the Pucic Palace and I believe it is at the higher end of the market, but I guess that depends on your budget. Other hotels worth a look and just outside the city walls are the Argentina the Excelsior and the Hilton. The Atlas Club Nautika restaurant serves a memorable meal with their dining area overlooking the crystal blue water, (you can see the fish from where you're sitting) overlooking the City Walls.

I can definitely recommend it, great choice for a wedding.

Regards,

Ann

Hi,

sorry for the late reply, just got back from my honeymoon!!

Yes we got married in Dubrovnik on the 20th of July and i must say we had the time of our lives. I would strongly recomend it to anybody. We came back so relaxed and stressfree. Ok here's a bit more info.

We booked our wedding through a travel agency in cork so everything was set up for us before we arrived. We just had to supply our birth, and confirmation cert to the travel agent. Forms had to be signed and sent to Dublin but this was hangled by the travel agency. We flew out on the Sunday and met the wedding cordanator on the Monday. She brought us to the town hall and one peice of paper had to be signed. That the civel part done. We then went looking at flowers and got them sorted in a half hour. By the way they looked lovely, just what i had asked for.

We got married in St Blaise chuch in the old town of Dubrovnik. Its in the middle of the old town square and its such a pretty church. We were married by a lovely English speaking priest. The church was closed just for our wedding so that alot of tourists would not wonder in. We were offered a long or short cernomie and went for the half hour. It was just what we were looking for as because of the heat we did not want to be stuck indoors for to long. It really just the same as a church wedding here at home but shorter. The same vowes are made and the same readings.

Oh forgot to say we stayed in the Excelsior Hotel and it was out of this world. They really pulled out all the stops to welcome us with wine in our room every day and chocolates and fruit. The view from the hotel was also lovely as was the delicious food. You were spoilt for choice with the number of cafes and restraunts in the hotel. It was also in walking distance of the town so we walked to the church on the day of the wedding. I was also able to get my hair done in the hotel which saved alot of time and hassel

After the wedding cermonie we went to the Nautika Restraunt for a meal and everything we heard about this place was true. The food, the view the people. It was a lovely place to mark such a happy occation.

Dont know what more to say!!! If you want to contact me again and ask some question i would be happy to answer them. Also have some lovely photoes i could show you.

Take care

Thanks for that Crystalone, Glad you had such a great experience ! We went ahead and are due to get married in Dubrovnik mid Sept. Have an organiser doing the same sort of thing as yours and will be heading to the Nautica as well. Really looking forward to it , even more now that your wedding was such a success !

All the best for your future !!
