We wanted to recommend a great place to stay in Split but the review section wouldn't accept it because it's a private apartment rental. Anyway, if you're looking for somewhere cheap, clean and central, Studio Bila (Garden Apartments) is hard to beat.

It was quite hard to find the place because there was no sign outside - but when we did we were pleasantly surprised.

We received a hearty welcome from Nikola who showed us the room and then immediately went to the shop to buy us a welcome beer and glass of wine which we enjoyed in the garden.

Our apartment was small but spotlessly clean with a kitchenette and tiny bathroom with a shower, toilet and sink squeezed in.

The owners also have larger apartments to rent on the same site.

The location was good - just a few minutes walk from the seafront and old town.

All in all, very friendly, very cheap, very clean and very good value. It had everything we needed for our two night stay.

We also had a great experience with a cottage rental in Split. Cottage Zelena was delightful, newly renovated with a lovely patio. The owner met us and advised us about good restaurants and activites.
