A place to stay on the water in Annapolis

Hi,

My husband will be flying into Baltimore Airport in August. We like to stay on the water. Can anyone suggest a nice place that is not too expensive in the Baltimore - Annapolis Area. We will have a car, so if there are any small towns in the area that will not be a problem. We would like to stay around 30 to 45 minutes away from the airport.

Thanks

Mary Ann

The only waterfront hotel in Annapolis is the Marriott, which can be pricey.

If you don't mind going over the Bay Bridge to the Eastern shore, there are a couple of waterfront hotels at Kent Narrows (I think the town is technically Grasonville). Based on the brands (Holiday Inn Express, Best Western, and one more whose name escapes me), I would expect their pricing to be lower than the Marriott.

It would be about 45 minutes from BWI on a normal day, but the traffic (espeically eastbound through Annapolis and at the tolls) can pretty bad at times. If you plan to arrive at afternoon rush hour or when Beach traffic is heavy (Friday afternoon and Staurday mid day), I would avoid the Eastern shore options.

August is typically a very hot month in this area (Annapolis) and

people from all over are heading to the Bay Bridge to go to the

ocean for vacation. Every Friday night it is bumper to bumper to

get the the Eastern Shore area to go to the ocean. And Sunday

is just as bad coming back.

There are some nice hotels that are not on the water if you want

to tour around historic Annapolis that do not charge the $300.00

plus as the hotel on the water will charge.

A nice place to stay is Country Inns & Suites on Housley Road.

Not far from downtown Annapolis. I would turn left out of the

hotel and drive down and cross over Generals Hwy. ,and that

will take you right into Annapolis (it becomes Bestgate Rd. and

then becomes Rowe Blvd.) You should park at the Navy stadium,

which will be on your right as you pass under Rt. 50, and take

the shuttle into town. Parking in town is terrible during the

summer months. The shuttle will take you to the downtown

area. Go to the harbormaster's building and get all the information

you will need about this area.

Have fun and dress comfortably.
