Taboga Island

Has any one got any ideas regarding the Island of Taboga? We are going to be in Panama City for two weeks and a ferry trip to one of the islands sounds interesting. Comments will be appreciated. If anyone has other suggestions, please give us a heads up. Thanks

We considered the visit to Taboga but our local concierge said, depending on the tides, the water may not be wonderful. The oil slicks from the big ocean rigs could wash to Taboga.

Also, it is VERY HOT between 1 pm and 3 pm (or 12:30 pm - 4 pm depending on the day and your tolerance), yet you have no option on ferries except out at 8:30 am and back at 4:30 pm (Tu and Thur; other days have one more ferry trip but not in the morning/ afternoon layout that tourists want.) So you are stuck on the island for a long time if you go.

Two weeks in PC is TOO LONG. I believe it is a really great place to visit for about 4 - 5 days but after a while, you really run out of things to do. It is far better to spend time at a few different locations, and enjoy all the things Panama has to offer, especially Boquete highlands and the Caribbean side for the beach scene.

Unless you want to fly to Bocas or Boquete area (which is not inexpensive), driving there will eat up much of your vacation time.

Perhaps 4-5 days in PC and then a trip to stay in the Pacific beaches area; Coronado, San Carlos, El Palmar or stay in the sleepy little mountain village of El Valle - just a couple of hours outside of PC.

I was on Taboga last week. Dead during the week. Not much to see or do other than the beach. Buy a big towel at Costo in Allbrook mall and bring snacks with you as restaurants ar not many nor great. A book, have a snooze in the shade, worse ways to spend an afternoon.

Water is not the cleanest, but we didn't see oil, just plastic.
